Thursday Therapy Spotlight Transcendence Holistic Therapies

Hey, Vicky welcome to the Nourished Farmacy to Coffee Connection & Collaboration.

#Thursdaytherapistspotlight

Who is Vicky and what led you to start up your holistic therapy business?

Hi Claire, I’m Vicky Hildyard Founder of Transcendence Holistic Therapies. I’m a yoga-loving, kitchen-dancing, dog-walking, beach-dreaming mum of two, step-mum to two more. I have recently escaped the corporate world, having been a PA to board level Directors in London and Leeds for two decades, and I am so excited to have just set up my Holistic Therapy business from my home Treatment Room in the little town of Horbury, West Yorkshire.

Over the years, and especially since becoming a mum, I have yearned for a more rewarding career which I could fit around my busy family life. Like many of us, I was finding that my office job just didn’t satisfy me, so when a friend suggested I start to train in Reiki healing with her back in 2011 as a way to feel happier and more connected to my spirituality, I jumped at the chance and it unlocked the door to a more holistic way of life for me. I fell in love with Reiki and over the years I completed my Reiki training to become a Reiki Master.
At the same time, I started to dream about opening a little Treatment Room to offer my reiki, but knew that I wanted to offer another healing modality too, so in 2017 I undertook a year’s training in Reflexology, graduating this September with a Mastership in Clinical Reflexology CRM5, the highest standard that is awarded in the UK. With my certificates on the wall, my candles lit, and my crystals gleaming, I opened the doors to Transcendence Holistic Therapies this September….and I couldn’t be happier!

Self Care is so important and especially in this day and age that we live in, such a busy busy stressed out lifestyle. What one top tip would you give someone to add in just a small dose of self-care daily?

My favourite self-care tip is something that I often recommend as after-care advice to my clients at the end of their treatments, it’s something that’s not expensive and is easily accessible. Pick up a bag of Epsom Salts next time you’re in the chemist, add a cupful to your bath at the end of the day and relax in the tub for at least 20 minutes. An Epsom salt bath has so many amazing benefits – it draws out toxins, reduces pain and inflammation, soothes skin, calms the nervous system, eases headaches, lowers blood pressure and clears negative energy.

You offer Facial Reflexology, I think most of us think of the feet with reflexology. Can you tell us a little bit more about this treatment?

I recently added Advanced Bergman Method Facial Reflexology to my Treatment list, having been trained by Ziggie Bergman at the London School of Reflexology. I have to say it’s the most heavenly and relaxing treatment which really sums up what Transcendence Holistic Therapies is all about as it delivers holistic health, well-being and beauty benefits in one luxurious package. Bergman Method Facial Reflexology draws on Native American techniques and Asian Body Maps which plot all the body’s reflexes onto the face – it therefore has all the well documented health-improving benefits of traditional foot or hand reflexology but with the added bonus of a luxurious beautifying element due to the sculpting and lifting of your facial muscles that takes place during the treatment.
I also include a mini Neal’s Yard facial within the treatment which my clients love as Neal’s Yard products are all organic, packed with divine smelling essential oils and are never tested on animals. The massage techniques, the manipulation of the reflex points and the use of gorgeous organic facial oils and hot towels within the treatment means that you leave your facial reflexology appointment looking beautifully relaxed and radiant, and feeling transcendent!

What exciting projects have you got coming up with your business and Where do you see Transcendence Holistic Therapies heading in 2019?

In mid-December, I’m heading back to the London School of Reflexology to undertake further training, which I am ridiculously giddy about! I will be learning how to deliver Ziggie Bergman’s Zone Face Lift which is hailed by Beauty Editors as the “Secret to Youth…takes 10 years off in 12 weeks” (Beauty & Wellbeing)     “A Spiritual facial treatment…unlike any other” (Sunday Express) “all natural alternative to botox” – (Hip & Healthy) . The Zone Face Lift is a 75 minute treatment which aims to lift your face and spirits and combines the most effective ancient and modern techniques including Japanese facelift massage which works by freeing constrictions both within the facial muscles and in the connective tissue, healing quartz crystals, holistic facial with hot towels to hydrate and nourish the skin, healing visualisations to release emotions held in the face and advanced facial tools including Gua sha and rollers which helps “iron out” wrinkles and stimulate collagen and elastin tightening and sculpting the jawline, helping to lift and reduce any puffiness.
From January I will also be extending my opening hours to offer weekday appointments as well as my current evening and weekend morning clinics. We have been having building work done for the last few months, but on completion of the work at the start of 2019, I will be able to push ahead from the current soft launch of my business to offer much more availability as I start to develop my client base further. I am hoping that 2019 will be the year that my little business really takes off and gains a loyal clientele of ladies who prioritise their health and well-being, and take time out to look after themselves with my holistic treatments.

What’s one business tip you can share that maybe you have learnt whilst being self-employed?

I’m still very much a newbie solo-preneur, but in the past few months I have recognised the importance of real-life contact with other women in business – it can be quite isolating being self-employed and working alone, and even if you have frequent contact with clients or customers, you still need other business owners to chat to and bounce ideas off or potentially collaborate with. That’s why communities such as Coffee Connection Collaboration are so useful when you’re self-employed, they provide a sense of community and connection that you can sacrifice when you branch out from the traditional 9-5. Networks such as Coffee Connection Collaboration are the best way to give yourself a little boost if you’re ever feeling the overwhelm of running your business alone. Being self-employed is scary, it’s time-consuming, it makes you vulnerable…but the rewards are so worth it, and networking events with other like-minded girl bosses are a fabulous way to remind yourself of why you made the leap in the first place, how far you’ve come and how amazing it is to support and be supported by a community designed to lift each other up. Thank you for setting up this amazing network Claire, on top of running your own business!

How do our readers find out more about Your services?

My website gives full descriptions of the various Reflexology and Reiki Treatments that I offer, but if you want to read about my treatments from the client’s perspective, I would recommend reading the reviews and testimonials on my Facebook or Google My Business Page that clients have already left for me, they will give you a good idea of the kind of experience you can expect when you visit. My aim is always to ensure that I have improved your health and well-being and that you leave me feeling out of this world…transcendent.

  1. I loved reading your blog Vicky. We almost have a parallel life as I took voluntary redundancy from kirklees council working as the PA to the CE to set up my own business as a holistic therapist and yoga teacher as it wasn’t what I really wanted to do and I wasn’t being fulfilled. I wanted to find my purpose in life and I’ve definitely done that. I love healing people and improving their health and wellbeing the natural way. It gives me immense satisfaction and gratification. A real buzz.

Your salon looks beaitiful. I definitely have to visit and try one of your facial reflexology treatments. They sound amazing. I do a holistic face lift massage using the meridians. Perhaps we should arrange a treatment swap?

  2. I enjoyed reading this, Vicky and I wish you every success in your business. What you do sounds amazing and I intend to come along and treat myself 🙂

Thank you, Claire, for setting up this group. I agree with Vicky that it can be isolating, if not a little scary out there and groups such as this help us all. x
